In heaven, you’ll have the chance to meet people from the bible, but what will you do when you meet Obadiah? Will Obadiah ask, “I was wondering… did you like my book?”
In our English Bibles the word wine occurs about 230 times. And in addition to about a dozen commands to be “sober,” some form of the word “drunk” occurs more than 70 times as in Paul’s list of sins including “envy, murders, drunkenness,” (Gal. 5:21). Words for hard liquor also appear.
God officiated the first marriage by creating one woman for Adam, and in establishing marriage He stated that “a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Gen 2:24). And the nearly balanced birth ratio of boys and girls provides evidence that God designed human beings for monogamy. However, the Bible has many references, negative, neutral, and even positive, to polygamy. Why then do Christians stand almost unanimously against a man simultaneously having two or more wives?
Why did Noah curse his grandson Canaan? This boy’s father, Ham, saw Noah’s nakedness, and as a result, Noah cursed Canaan, who became the patriarch of Israel’s enemies, the Canaanites. The story seems capricious on the surface, in contrast to so much reasonable history in Genesis. Let’s take another look at what happened.
A lot of people think Job is about how he never cursed God, and how God knew Job wouldn’t curse him, but if you read the book, you will find Job did sin against God after the second affliction.. it took him a while but he did it.
